Glen Ords are typically destined for Asia, but this is a special release with quite the set of maturation: from what I understand, it started in refill ex-bourbon american oak hogsheads, refill ex-bodega European oak butts. Then it was re-casked into charred ex-Pedro Ximinez sherry and ex-Moscatel casks. Finally, it was married together in European oak puncheons.

A very nice balanced, fruity, and warm single malt. It does quite well with a drop of water. Fruit is front and centre, but also toffee, pear, root beer, and light spice. The palate is very rich, full of stone fruits, and woody forest. A very nice “middle-bodied” scotch - it seems they are usually on the light or heavy side these days. Vanilla, light citrus, and oak on the finish. There’s much more - but you get the gist.

Highly Recommended (48% of all whiskies I’ve reviewed to date get this recommendation or higher).

Value: Low, at $200.

Glendullan is actually Diageo's second largest distillery, after Dufftown, and was typically utilized for blending purposes only - until recently when the Singleton bottlings have made these single malts available as a results of the single malt boom.

Vanilla, toffee, fresh sawn oak, fruit - peaches, pineapple, and more of those green wood and white rice notes. The palate is surprisingly soft, with a bit more bite than the 12, but, also, a bit cleaner. Still quite fruit forward, and less barley-centric than the 12. Light stone fruits, vanilla, and then a light hit of barley and oak on the finish. It’s slightly creamy, on the nose and the palate – unlike the 12. The finish has pears, nutmeg, and eventually oak. Some of the barley and oak centred parts of the whisky come out more as you sip. Light and enjoyable.

A large distillery in Diageo's portfolio, with few bottlings until it was bottled in the Singleton range (allongside Glen Ord and Dufftown). Interestingly, the Singleton bottlings are dependent upon regional tasting preferences and primarily released in different regions - with Dufftown going to Europe (and Canada - I guess we have a European taste?), Glen Ord going to Asia, and Glendullan going to the USA. A "high proportion" of American oak goes into this bottling.

In keith, 40%, high proportion of american oak,

Oak, honey, coconut, barley, and fruit on the nose – apples, pear, and fresh peaches, too. Some green wood, dried white rice, and star anise, too. The palate is lightly sweet, with rich malt leading into a dense, earthy finish which grows with toffee, green apple, and baking spices. It dries out nicely to barley and oak. The barley is nice, and I like that it is central. Very pleasant - one for those who like lighter style Scotch whiskies which are just easy to drink.

Recommended (81% of whiskies I’ve reviewed to date get this recommendation or higher).
