Review: Aultmore 12 Year Old Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky by Jason Hambrey

With the huge craze over single malts in the past few years, we are seeing some distilleries like Aultmore release single malts in recent years. These distilleries have been producing for some time (Aultmore in 1897), but have been producing for blended Scotch whisky rather than as single malts. This is part of the "Last Great Malts Collection" release from Dewar in 2014, who have also released expressions from Craggailachie, Royal Brackla, Aberfeldy, and Deveron as official bottlings (i.e. not produced by bottlers who buy casks or distillate to age themselves). These sorts of releases give us a glimpse into both the sorts of whiskies that go into blends as well as some malts which are quite a bit different than those typically released as single malts. This expression is bottled at 46% and non-chill filtered - that's a good start.
