Review: Dubh Glas Empathy Canadian Single Malt / by Jason Hambrey

100% Malted Barley
Distiller Dubh Glas Distillery (Oliver, BC)

Another of a number of single malts released by the British Columbia distillery Duh Glas. They are releasing a number of individually named batches, with lots of variety, so - good for Dubh Glas. I find unique flavor profiles in their whiskies, which always excites me.

There is a very nice confectionary quality here – creamy oak, pear, toffee, and loads of baking spice. Some interesting notes too – lavender soap, vanilla icing, polenta, and a touch of rosemary and pine. Really, unique stuff. The finish has a bit of saccharin, which lends an interesting characteristic – along with more lavender and baking spice. The finish is spicy and a bit saccharin.

Value: Low against the market at $100. But, you don’t buy the first batches of young single malt whisky for monetary value.
