100% BC Malted 2-row barley
Distiller Mad Lab (Vancouver, BC)

Mad Lab distilling makes this vodka from 100% BC 2-row malted barley, distilled three times in their custom-designed and built direct-fire still. The vodka is distilled three times, with a very narrow hearts cut on the third distillation (so narrow, in fact, that the cut around the hearts is used in their other vodka, Viking Vodka. And, the care taken seems to be acknowledged - this was awarded a gold medal at the Canadian Artisinal Spirits Competition.

Very light, very clean, very easy. Tasting this beside the Viking Vodka reveals what the extra work on the distillation is able to accomplish. This is very clean, slightly creamy, and not harsh or forceful. Slightly nutty, with light citrus notes. But, it is a very clean profile and it’s hard to identify anything easily – one of the cleanest of the Canadian vodkas from small producers. The texture is great.

Assessment: Highly Recommended.

Value: A very clean, “smooth” vodka for $40.
